Day 20: Birthday

Leftover cookies that my Italian II teacher got us

Today was my birthday and the day of our midterms. My Italian II teacher drove into campus today because he stopped at a bakery to buy some pastries for the class in honor of my birthday.  It was very nice of him to do that.  He also made the whole class sing “Happy Birthday” or “Buon Compleanno A Te” to me in Italian.  My exam went well for the most part and Ashley said she rocked hers.

Blackie II wished me a happy birthday
After that we took a bus downtown to Piazza Cavour and then a taxi to the Savoy Cinema.  We were on our way to see the new Harry Potter movie before anyone else in the United States did. The Savoy Cinema was built in the 1960s in what was previously a garage. We missed the 5:00pm showing because we didn’t have enough cash and had to go to an ATM.

While we waited to catch the 7:40pm showing, Ashley and I got some gelato at a local gelateria.  I got chocolate and COOKIES gelato, which was quite delicious.  Ashley got strawberry and banana flavor gelato which tasted like she was eating the actual fruits themselves.

After getting gelato and wandering around that new part of Rome, we ate at a Napoli restaurant.  She got spaghetti and I got a very large pizza.  It was pretty good.

After rushing to eat our dinner to make in time for the movie, we made it about five minutes into Harry Potter.  Apparently they don't show previews here in Rome and start right on time with the feature presentation.  It was such a great movie and we both really enjoyed it!  After it was over we took the taxi and the bus back home and went to bed.
Ashley really excited after seeing the movie!
